Air Globe can simulate any weather on the Earth.

Air Globe is a 2014 Electrolux Design Lab Competition entry, by designer Pei-Chih Deng.
The device simulates the ambiance of any destination by collecting real-time data on the temperature, humidity levels, smells and even the sounds of the area. The Air Globe rotates on an axis, making it easy for the user to explore different climates with a basic command of geography. The viewfinder at the top of the 3D map incorporates a magnification function for those of you looking to do some city specific globetrotting.

In the past,people would set up the degrees of temperature and humidity. However,the numbers do not contain any meaning to the users other than sending the parameters to a machine. Now with “Air Globe”, users do not merely select the numbers, but to select the places they want to be in and to fill the room with the air for specific purposes. Perhaps not all of us can travel around the world. With “Air Globe” we can choose to experience the air from different destinations each day and to spice up the daily routine.

What is the concept Air Globe?

Air Globe is an air purifier that can simulate the air of a designated area, making sure you can always enjoy the climate of your preference. The globe collects the real-time temperature, humidity, smell and sound and replicates it in your home. Users can spin the virtual globe by hand and move the chosen region under the magnifier-like viewfinder to have that atmosphere simulated.

What was the inspiration behind your concept?

“I noticed a product called “Canned Air” when I travelled several months ago. User may purchase air captured from their favourite city as a souvenir without ever opening the can. Then, A crazy idea came to me. Why not open the can and fill the room with the air from the city we love?”
“Thus, I started to build a machine that can “reproduce” the air from different regions around the world, which will allow people to convert their surroundings in order to imitate the places they want to be in.”

How do you think your concept will change peoples’ lives?

“I believe people will value the living experience in details in the future. When they spin the globe and select a destination, they can gain experience by accessing comprehensive global weather data. Air Globe change the method of domestic temperature control. Users can select the places they want to be in and to fill the room with the air for specific purposes.
In addition to being used as a home appliance, it is a tangible teaching aid and a tool that can assist travelers with packing.”
